Q: If you weren't working for Martins Dental Parters, what would your dream job be?
A: If I was not working for MDP my dream job would be working as a social worker with a minor degree in behavioral health counciling.

Q: Other than MDP, what is your favorite Beverly MA location?
A: My favorite Beverly MA spots are Lynch Park and City Side Diner. In the morning I sometimes go and grab a quick, and wicked cheap breakfast at City Side Diner. I enjoy Lynch Park in the summer time because there's always some kind of event going on like lobster fest and homecoming. I also think it's awesome they still host movie nights on the lawn under the dome.

Q: Who is the most influential person in your life?
A: I can't pick a single perso - my parents and my two brothers have all influenced me in different ways. If is was not for watching my parents grow and work to better themselves everyday, and them pushing me to continue with school, I probably would not be a LDA experiencing this awesome opportunity at MDP. My younger brothers were both born with developmental disabilities and autism, and growing up I saw how hard life was for them so they are the influence in me pursuing my education in mental health and social work at SNHU.

Q: Whats the best advice you've ever received?
A: Save every penny

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the word, where would it be?
A: If I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Japan. I was just talking with a patient about an upcoming trip to Japan he has planned with his daughter. While in Japan they're taking the time to hike Mount Fuji, 6 hours up and 5 back down, to see the sunset. That is something I would love to experience!

Chipping and staining are two of the most common reasons people are dissatisfied with their smile. These flaws can detract from your cosmetic dentistry overall appearance and make you reluctant to smile or talk. At Martins Dental Partners in Beverly, MA, our dental team understands the personal and social need to have a beautiful smile. That's why we offer a variety of cosmetic procedures that can vastly improve our patients' teeth. Dr. Valerie Martins, Dr. Suzanne Fisher and Dr. Sukhpreet Heer explain how we can help fix chips and stains.  Unlike bones, teeth don't regenerate when they're damaged.

Solutions for Chips
So if you've chipped your tooth on a piece of ice or while opening a package, it's a permanent blemish, right? With cosmetic dentistry procedures, the answer is no! At Martins Dental Partners in Beverly, you have several options when it comes to repairing chips, cracks or other signs of physical damage to your teeth. Bonding cement is carefully matched to the color of your teeth and sculpted to fit seamlessly into the chipped area. We can also create a custom veneer that fits over the entire tooth and hides the flaws from view. More extensive damage can be repaired with a dental crown.

Solutions for Stains
Teeth look best when they're white. However, coffee drinking, tobacco and other circumstances can turn them an unflattering shade of yellow, brown or gray. Fortunately, your Beverly cosmetic dentist can reverse the effects of staining with teeth whitening. Using a peroxide-based gel, our trained staff can turn your teeth up to four shades whiter in just one 60-minute appointment at Martins Dental Partners. Certain stains, such as those caused by antibiotics or trauma, do not respond to whitening, but veneers or bonding can rejuvenate the appearance of your teeth.

If you've got a cosmetic dental problem, we have an answer! Contact Martins Dental Partners in Beverly, MA to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists today!

In this special guest feature, Paige Johnson, a personal trainer and regular contributor at, shares tips to get fit without a gym.

If the thought of spending an hour at the gym using complicated equipment makes you run for the hills, consider getting fit in more fun ways. You don’t have to hit the elliptical machine to get in a workout. Many opportunities surround you, if you just look at them differently. Any activity that raises your heart rate and pushes your body outside its comfort zone can be exercise, including hula hooping or walking a dog.

1. Biking
Biking is great because it can be tailored to your personal fitness level. Conquering hills and reaching higher speeds can challenge you to push harder. If you need to take it slow, even a relaxing bike ride can burn around 281 calories per hour, according to Men's Fitness. Although you can use a stationary bike at the gym or in your home, getting on the real thing and enjoying the great outdoors is more fun! You can bike the road or sidewalk, or you can bike a trail.

2. Hula Hooping
With a little practice, you can utilize a hula hoop for a fun full-body workout.  Udemy notes that hula hooping uses as many as 30 of your muscles, including your back, abs, thighs, and calves. A hula hoop workout that integrates your arms and legs can burn up to 600 calories in an hour. As your brain works with your muscles to keep the hoop going, you’re building coordination and motor skills. Try out some exercise DVDs that incorporate hula hoops into the workout routine.

3. Dog Walking
Through its companionship, a dog can lower its owner’s stress levels. A dog can also help its owner stay in shape. Since walking a dog is an inherent part of dog ownership, you can let your dog do his business while you get exercise. A University of Missouri study found that overweight participants who walked their dogs for 20 minutes five days a week lost an average of 14 pounds. If you don’t own a dog, volunteer to walk your neighbor’s dog. You can even earn cash for walking dogs!

4. Tree Top Obstacle Course
A ropes course in the treetops is sure to get your adrenaline flowing. Treetop obstacle courses feature shaky bridges and platforms, slender planks, and tightropes that you must cross to get through the course. All of these challenges will work your whole body while building strength, coordination, and balance. You can go alone or with a group of friends.

5. Pilates
Pilates is defined as “a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements” by Mayo Clinic. It enhances core strength, especially your abs, while putting very little pressure on your joints. It will also improve stability, muscle control, and endurance. Since Pilates requires a lot of concentration, you can clear your mind while you workout.

6. Swimming
Looking for a way to knock out cardio and strength training in one exercise? Give swimming a try. Fitness Magazines says, “In swimming, if you aren't moving constantly, you're sinking.” That’s some intense cardio. And since water is about 800 times denser than air, your muscles are under constant resistance, resulting in strength training. Being in water also means less wear and tear on your joints, and the arm motions of swimming will work muscles that are generally hard to exercise. While all exercises release endorphins that help lower stress levels, swimming releases its own special endorphins that are guaranteed to help you feel relaxed.

Don’t force yourself through boring exercises. Try these six fun exercise ideas, or come up with more ideas of your own. There’s no reason you shouldn’t have fun while you get fit.
